G7

G77 FBs

The G7 has been designed combining the advantages of full range drivers, line arrays and digital signal processing resulting in a very low distortion loudspeaker capable of unsurpassed soundstage & coherence, realistic & lifelike imaging, large scale dynamics and perfect transients with a large sweet spot. This is a loudspeaker that completely disappears, leaving behind a very immersive and engaging wall of sound conjuring a grand illusion as if “ You Are There” in a live audio performance.

Conventional multi-way speakers use different drivers ( woofer/midrange /tweeter) to generate different segments of the frequency spectrum separated by crossovers. However, each driver has different dispersion and tonal properties that leads to abrupt change in power response and tonality around the crossover frequency. The summation of frequency response of the drivers is ideal in a narrow listening area (sweet spot), outside which severe dips may show up. Passive crossover networks also introduce phase anomalies that ruin the transients of the original signal. These adversely affect coherency along with stability, depth and precision of the image, which gets far worse outside the sweet spot.

The above concerns are mostly solved when using a single full range driver to reproduce most of the frequency range. However, a single driver is rarely capable of producing decent levels of low frequency and smooth extended highs at the same time. Larger drivers ( 7 – 8 inches) suffer from beaming and severe cone break up in the high frequencies while smaller full range drivers (< 4 inch) suffers from lack of low frequencies due to limited air displacement capabilities.

The G7 attempts to solve the limitations of a single driver speaker without resorting to multi-way topology. Each channel has 24 pieces of 3.5 inch drivers in a vertical line array playing full range without any crossover. These small drivers are capable of producing high frequencies beyond 20KHz albeit  with limited low frequency output due to small cone area. However, 24 drivers working together, have the same surface area and air displacement capability as that of a 14 inch woofer with 4mm one way excursion. In a ported cabinet tuned to 27Hz, the small & light weight (3g!) cones, without any of issues that plague the much heavier and larger diaphragms, results in an exceptionally controlled and effortless bass that can rival any system way above its price segment.

The G7 is a full length line source which acts much differently compared to a point source of an ideal conventional speaker. A point source speaker attenuates at 6dB per doubling distance while a line source attenuates only 3dB. So for playback level of 90dB at 4m, ideally a point source has to produce 102dB at 1m, while an array has to produce only 96dB at 1m. Moreover, the speaker diaphragms barely move from lower midrange and up due to the huge surface area, resulting is very low distortion.

In a line source the vertical dispersion is very limited to the height of the source. This greatly minimizes floor and ceiling reflections in a typical domestic environment that deteriorates the imaging and frequency response in case of a point source speaker. This also results in practically unlimited vertical sweet spot. The frequency response of the speaker is the same whether the listener is sitting on the floor or standing up and imaging is as precise and coherent as ever. In contrast, the vertical dispersion of multi-way speakers is very limited and imaging and high frequency response falls apart outside that range.

The G7 uses a DSP (Digital Signal Processor) equalizer to tune the non uniform summation of 24 drivers across the frequency range of 24Hz – 20.5KHz. This mandatory equalization has its advantages now that we are able to correct for baffle step and driver response non linearity without using passive elements. In addition, the DSP supports 3 pre-installed presets and custom equalization that can be used to adjust the low frequencies of the speakers according to room size and placement.
